DrainBox the in-ground Termination Point for 4inch landscape pipes

So you want to bury the 4" pipe from the downspout out into the yard. You want to keep the rodents, snakes, cats, moles and others from living in the drain pipe, right? You don't want the pipe laying about the yard and have to move it each time you mow the yard, right?
Where and how to Terminate the end of the drain pipe? You use the DrainBox.  Now water will have a place to go from your underground drain pipe. The holes in the bottom allow the water to soak into the soil. The lid will lift when the volume gets to be much AND water will spread out over a wider area so you will not have the erosion of the fire hose effect if you just left the end open
If the soil is porous (sandy), dig your hole about the size of a 5 gallon bucket. Place stone in the bottom of the hole so the DrainBox does not sink down when filling with water. Adjust the stone base so the lid is at the same level as the surface. Insert your drain pipe.
If the ground has a lot of clay you will want to make a much larger hole and back fill with gravel and larger rocks for the water to flow into.
No this is NOT a tight fit. You want the water to find its way into the soil! The idea is to give the water a way to do just that.
The gutter on your house is designed to catch and move water from the roof. The downspouts direct the column of water away from the foundation. This system works well as far as collecting the water, but that is where the problem begins. Since the water has now been concentrated into a 4" tube and has a vertical fall of 8' +, erosion is likely.
Not only do you have an erosion problem; all the water that your gutter system has so efficiently gathered is now dumped right at the foundation! So now to go along with your erosion problem you have a great possibility of having water under your house. Some folks try to correct the problem by running 4" corrugated pipe along on top of the ground. This indeed gets the water away from the foundation but it looks ugly. Not to mention the aggravation of trying to mow around them.
You can run the pipes underground to the property line but this is usually very expensive and may be against regulations in some areas. Run the 4" pipe underground, usually 10ft. and install DRAINBOX at the end of that pipe.
By using DRAINBOX on downspouts, these problems are corrected in a way that: Looks good - what is visible after DRAINBOX is installed is a lid that is flush to the top of the ground. Pipes are underground out of the way. Requires less work and money -
